The film was famously one of the last major blockbusters to use instead of CGI for its landscapes, which is why it still looks so "tangible" in high definition today.

Is it a dream? Is it reality? Either way, this movie remains a gold standard for sci-fi action. The practical makeup effects by Rob Bottin still hold up better than most modern CGI. Watching this specific BluRay rip—the colors on Mars look incredible and the DTS audio makes every explosion (and bone crunch) hit hard.
