The "LEX" watermark began to grow, spreading across the image like a digital cancer until it formed a face. The AC3 audio track, usually a crisp 5.1 surround sound, collapsed into a high-pitched, rhythmic screeching—the sound of a modem dial-up from the grave.

Marek froze. He leaned in, his nose inches from the pixels. He checked the file name again. It was a standard XviD encode, a relic of early 2000s piracy formats, yet it was playing in a hauntingly crisp HDRip quality.
He tried to pause the video, but the spacebar did nothing. On screen, the protagonist was packing for a bachelorette weekend, but the subtitles continued their own narrative. The "LEX" watermark began to grow, spreading across
He lived in a cramped apartment in Warsaw, where the glow of his dual monitors was often the only light. He had downloaded the file from a grainy forum, desperate to see the film everyone was calling a "satire of the influencer age." But the tag at the end— Napisy PL —promised Polish subtitles that he hadn’t been able to find anywhere else. He double-clicked.
The character on the screen—the digital Marek—slowly turned its head to look out of the monitor. The subtitles scrolled one last time, flickering in bright yellow: Napisy PL: "Koniec seansu." ( End of the screening. ) ) On screen, a grainy, XviD-compressed version of
Marek grabbed the power cord of his PC and yanked. The monitors stayed bright.

Campaign Cartographer also has a city-based module called City Designer 3. There is an up-front cost, but it’s HUGELY powerful.

So it’s billed as something for larger maps but wonderdraft is one of the best mapmaking tools I’ve used. period (and I’ve used all the ones listed above, and in the comments, with the exception of dungeonfog which I just haven’t had the time to try yet). It also does a pretty great job with cities, and I suggest you check out the wonderdraft reddit for some great examples if you need to quickly see some. I definitely recommend you look at it if you haven’t seen it already. Hope you all are doing great!
This.
Thann you for this post, there are a lot that I didn’t know about like Flowscape which seem to have really nice features.
I have been creating a software to create fantasy maps and adventure and I would be thrilled to have your feedback before it’s launched !

I still stick to Azgaar for general map generating. I can tweak a lot of specs and it generates even trade routes (which is really something I can’t really do well). Art wise it’s very basic, bit I still like it as basis and then go do something beautiful with it …
I personally think Azgaar is the best mapmaking tool ever created. However, it can’t do cities. I’m guessing he’s planning on it though. That guy is insane. There’s well over 100,000 lines of code in his GitHub repo.
I recently bought Atlas Architect on Steam. It’s a 3D hexagon based map maker that’s best for region or world maps but has city tile options. For terrain you left click to raise elevation and right click to lower. It’s pretty neat!
