InCopy works best when InDesign users create assignments ( .icma files) and include InCopy content ( .icml files).

Files must be stored in a shared location (server, Dropbox, Creative Cloud Files) for the check-in/check-out workflow to function. Adobe InCopy 2020 v15.1.2
